CEEDS Celebrates 25 years with the Launch of New IT Training Facilities and Internet Café
CEEDS is delighted to announce the opening of our new, modernised IT training rooms and brand new Public Internet and Email Access on Monday 25th June 2018. With the help of generous grants from Google Ireland and The Holiday Home Project we have revamped our IT training equipment and rooms.
Established in 1993, CEEDS, a voluntary organisation, is situated in Aras Rualach, Neilstown Road and has provided support services to the community since 1993.
Along with a welfare rights information service, Internet and Email facilities, CV compilation and typing, we offer a range of training options including bookkeeping, payroll, security and computer training from basic to Higher levels. We are QQI and ECDL accredited. Rooms are available for other training and community organisations to avail of.
The centre is open from 9 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Thursday and until 4.00 pm on Friday. CEEDS staff
After 25 years in the community, CEEDS is proud to still work in the heart of North Clondalkin and to continue to provide much needed locally based services to our community and surrounding areas.
With the rapid advances in technology our Computers Systems and IT infrastructure gradually became outdated and less compatible with the latest Training programs. In 2017 we received a Grant from Google Ireland and the Holiday Home Fund. This provided us with a valuable opportunity to redevelop and modernise our Training facilities. With careful research, planning and numerous visits to other Educational facilities we were able to design and implement a Project to redevelop our Training Centre. The aim of the Project was to provide the community with a Centre of Digital Excellence, with fast Internet facilities and the technology to continue to provide quality training for years to come.
Bearing in mind the changes in the IT sector, digital trends and upcoming changes in EU data policy (GDPR) we strived to build a solid, reliable and future proofed Training Centre. We donated our old equipment to Camara, a Global I.T charity donation program. Our PC’s have found their new home in a School in Ethiopia, providing badly needed technical resources to an underprivileged region. As a non-profit Organisation ourselves we were able to avail of subsidised Industry Standard Software through the Irish Charity Enclude and the Microsoft non-profit Software donation program. This process has vastly improved our entire operational I.T Network representing an estimated investment valued at nearly €100,000 in Hardware and Software infrastructure.
We also created a Public PC and internet access facility with four brand new Computers, replacing our older setup of two machines with limited space/facilities. This facility is equipped with Microsoft Office 2016 Professional Software, allowing customers to create a wide variety of Documents and Projects or to simply browse the Internet at their leisure.
Overview of our new Training facilities:
Large I.T Training Room
Room for 20 Learners. This is our Brand new modern Training facility and has 20 Student Computers with the following specs; 24 Inch HD Monitors, Windows 10 Professional, Microsoft Office 2016 Professional, Intel Core i3 7th Generation Processors, HD Graphics, 4GB+ RAM etc. This Room has a flexible Breakout area with Tables/Chairs where Students can have their Lunch or carry out other Training. There is an Overhead Projector and White Screen and also a Networked Printer.
Small I.T Training Room
Room for 8 Learners. We developed this Room as an extra training facility designed for Training flexibility and to continue to accommodate walk-in examinations for ECDL Students. This Room has 8 PCs with the following specs: Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, 3GB+ RAM etc. These Workstations have been refurbished and customized to allow Student access to older versions of Windows/Microsoft products for added flexibility and comfort.
New Company Server
This is the fundamental core operating System of our new Network. Our old Server had been deteriorating over the past few years and struggled to deal with daily tasks such as networking, system updates and internal email. Keeping in mind new GDPR policy and I.T Data Security issues, the installation of a powerful new Network Server was a vital upgrade needed to run a reliable I.T System. With Powerful backup drives, multi-layered encryption technology and powerful Sonic wall security features this Server will smoothly run and maintain our Internal network for many years to come.
On 25th June 2018, we are delighted to welcome Stephanie Lavelle and Denis Browne from Google Ireland to formally open our new training facilities and to be joined by our local representatives and other invited guests from local organisations.
Members of the public are invited to drop in any time to see our rooms and to find out more about the services on offer in CEEDS.
